Family Drop-in Playtime & Activities for Ages 5 and Under.

PARENT & TOT DROP-IN

PARK DAYS AT CECELIA RAVINE PARK (2-4 YRS)
Join us for active play at Cecelia Ravine Park. Get the wiggles out with outdoor park time and fun!
The program includes organized games, movement, exercise, and free play. Best suited for ages 2–4 yrs;
all children are welcome. Program will be at the centre in the event of rain
M July 8 – 22 & Aug 12 - 19 9:30am-12pm Drop-in/Free

FUN FOR LITTLE ONES (2-5 YRS)
Enjoy singing, movement, reading and fun with your little ones. The program encourages child development through singing, movement, stories and bonding between child and caregiver. Caregiver
participation is required.
T July 9 – 23 & Aug 13 - 20 9:30–10:15am Drop-in/Free

TODDLER ARTS & CRAFTS (2–5 YRS)
Explore your creative side! Each week features a different craft designed with the preschooler in
mind. Smocks and soap provided. Creative activities can be messy, so please dress children appropriately. Caregiver participation is required.
W July 10 – Aug 21 9:30am-10:30am Drop-In/$1 per family and daycare child

SUMMER BBQ FOR FAMILIES
Join us for a delicious BBQ and salad served out on our back patio. Lawn chairs and
blankets recommended as seating is limited. Suggested donation of $2 per family
Th    July 11 - 25 Aug 8 - 22       Dinner: 5pm-6pm Drop-In: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Children 0-6 yrs must be accompanied by a parent. Please note that during the summer months the Family Centre will be closed to encourage outdoor play.

STROLLER GROUP (0-5 YRS)
Join our Family Center Facilitator as she gets you and your infant/toddler out and
about exploring our community. We know that an active body increases both physical
and mental health and these positive effects ripple out in our daily lives. Dress appropriately for the weather and to bring a water bottle.

DAD’S GROUP (0-6 YRS)
Welcome all Dads and your children under 6 to a new program designed just for you! We offer a
friendly atmosphere to learn together with other Dads to follow your child’s lead in play. Learn about
your role in your developing child’s life, discuss parenting successes and challenges with fellow Dads,
and enjoy free time, play, coffee, and snacks with your little one.
Sa    July 13 – Aug 31        1-3pm Drop-in/Free

BABY STEPS (0 to 12 MOS) 
Increase parenting confidence as your infant develops through the milestones of their first year of life.  Facilitated by our Family Center Coordinator and accompanied by community guest speakers sharing information on topics such as health, dental hygiene, nutrition, day-care, etc. we will discuss the norms and storms of being a new parent.  Meet parents and make new friends with others who share similar experiences, understanding that you are not alone in parenting your child.

PARENT EDUCATION

NOBODY'S PERFECT
Nobody's Perfect is a place where parents can:

  • MEET with other parents of young children (ages 0-5)
  • SHARE questions or concerns and ideas about being a parent
  • LEARN about child development, safety, health and behaviour
  • TALK about real-life parenting experiences
  • WORK together with the support of a trained facilitator
  • DISCOVER ways of positive parenting

Within a group setting, parents participate in facilitated sessions that:

  • promote positive parenting
  • increase parents' understanding of children's health, safety, and behaviour
  • help parents build on the skills they have and learn new ones
  • improve parents' self-esteem and coping skills
  • increase self-help and mutual support
  • bring them in contact with community services and resources
  • help prevent family violence
