On Board: with Samuel Jang, Board of Directors

My name is Samuel Jang and I joined the Board of the Burnside Gorge Community Association last August. I am very appreciative to work with people who are passionate about Victoria and place such a high value on improving the living conditions for people who call this place home. I moved to Victoria from Vancouver three years ago. My employer, BC Investment Management, is located in the Selkirk waterfront; I am the owner of a lovely two bedroom apartment facing the Galloping Goose trail at 365 Waterfront Crescent; and my spiritual activity – SGI [Soka Gakkai International] Buddhism – takes place once a month at the Burnside Gorge Community Centre where space is rented out to interested parties.

I grew fond of the BGCA after one of many Buddhist chants - exploring the downstairs of the community centre, I admired the children's drawings, the bright open spaces used as classrooms, and the rooftop garden. Seeing a posting online for a board member, I felt I could contribute my business and financial skills as well as offer contacts at my employer for fundraising purposes.

On the BGCA board, one of the topics that always comes up is making our community more liveable and inviting to live in, whether it involves making a recommendation for a specific change or a broader set of planning activities that will lead to bigger solutions. It is an honour to be working on the board! If you see me, please feel free to say hi.
