Spectrum graduates look to community for support
Susan Shea, Co-Chair, Spectrum Dry Grad Committee
For the first time, Spectrum Community School will be holding a Dry Grad to support students to celebrate their graduation together in a safe and engaging way. We are hopeful that this will be the start of a tradition that will not only keep our students safe on a night that is notorious for alcohol and drug related harm but will also teach future generations that a celebration does not necessarily need to include alcohol or other drugs in order to be fun.
Simply put, a Dry Grad is an all night supervised after-grad party where no alcohol or drugs are allowed. Our Dry Grad party will immediately follow the dinner/dance portion of the grad evening and will end at 5am the following morning. The party will feature activities, entertainment, food and enticing prizes designed to persuade graduates to attend.
As you can image, planning an event of this size is a significant undertaking and requires considerable financial support and volunteer effort. Ticket sales will generate approximately one-third of the funds required and Spectrum Grads have committed to raising an additional third of the funds.
Organizers are seeking the community’s support in raising the final third of the funds necessary for a successful event. If you would be willing to make a cash or prize donation please contact Susan Shea at susan.shea63@gmail.com or by telephone at 250-595-7200.
All sponsors will be thanked and promoted on the school website, in local newspapers, in Dry Grad publications and on related social media sites. We thank you in advance.
