Chair

On the board since January 2014, I have been awed by the commitment and passion the other board directors demonstrate in their voluntary dedication to ensuring that Burnside Gorge continues to improve as a vibrant community. My hope is that my experience and knowledge can assist the board in its endeavors to continue the strategic planning required to strengthen the Burnside Gorge community.

My wife Sandra and I escaped the Calgary winters to relocate to Victoria in 2010 and into the Selkirk Waterfront area of Burnside Gorge in 2012. We chose Burnside Gorge for its access to the Gorge waterway, the Galloping Goose trail, its walkability, and its location close to downtown. The social vibrancy of this community, missing in many communities, has resulted in many new friends and opportunities. We enjoy walking to downtown for shopping or lunch and then taking the water taxi home, usually joining a group of tourists on board. It is a truly civilized way to arrive home. Our passion for travel and my love of wilderness hiking have only reinforced how lucky we are to live here.

With my background in architecture and project management I have chosen to become part of the Campus Committee, whose objective is to facilitate the development of the Burnside Elementary school building and site. This community asset requires long term planning that will possibly provide a center for social, learning, and artistic facilities.

In addition to my duties at the BGCA I serve on the board of our condo and also as the spokesman for Dying With Dignity in Victoria. I have always believed that your community deserves your support and that you get more out of a community when you are willing to help the community grow by committing your time and energy.

Get involved, you will be better for it.
