Learn for Life

Spanish for Beginners                  

In this introductory class, learn the basic vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, as well as idioms and expressions that you will need to travel comfortably in Spanish speaking countries. Instructor: Anamaria Medina

Health & Wellness

Cake Decorating

Learn how to decorate cake and other delicious treats. Basic skills like icing a cake and cupcakes will be shown. Piping different borders, flowers, and different creative buttercream designs will be taught. You will learn how to cover a cake in fondant and shown simple fondant decorations.

You are Never Too Old to Start Writing for your Life, Health & Legacy

2 Part workshop $60 total

Workshop lead by Dr. William Gray

Workshop 1 - overview of how writing promotes healthy brain activity, creativity, and revitalized thinking. Focus is on answering basic questions (What to write? Who For? Why? How? When? Where?) The goal is to: Start right to re-write less. 

Workshop 2 - Use 'content' you already have (photos, poems, anything). Decide what to include and exclude. Overcome barriers (mental blocks, procrastination, distractions, etc). Make your writing impactful. Use your writing style as an asset, plus other writing tip!

The goal is to learn how: Planning prevents failing.

Develop Assertiveness to Handle Everyday Situations Better

2 part workshop $60 total

Workshop lead by Dr. William Gray

Workshop 1 - Begin to develop Assertiveness as a new competency. Instruction + role plays will help you to begin thinking and acting assertively so your needs and the needs of others are met.

Workshop 2 - Practicing Assertiveness to replace Submissiveness or Aggressiveness. You will also “unlearn” why you act in these less effective way – so you can stop this.

Health through the Ages                      

Common health complaints and helpful tips from infants to adults. Drs. Jennifer and Jeff Gratton will review some common health complaints and provide medical insight into how to assess the root cause of disease and focus on a preventative approach. They will offer helpful tips to provide your family with natural and safe treatments. Topics touched on include:

Prenatal Yoga

Expectant mothers, start your weekend refreshed and relaxed. This friendly, supportive class will include safe and gentle movements, preparing your body for birth. Focus will be placed on strengthening deep core muscles, releasing tension and rejuvenating your entire body. These gentle asanas will benefit your spine, uterus and pelvic floor, and increase overall comfort.  Connect with other moms-to-be in your community as you enjoy the benefits of this popular class. This class is appropriate for both new and experienced students. Classes can be pro-rated

Chair Yoga

In this gentle, restorative class you will have the option of practicing yoga poses in either a chair or using a mat. Chair yoga is ideal for anyone with physical or mobility challenges (diabetes, arthritis, etc.) or anyone wanting a slower-paced yoga practice. Even if you're a regular in yoga class, chair yoga routines are a great way to stretch and flex while working at your desk or during a lunch break. Flow Yoga          

Flow yoga is a practice in which the postures are linked with the breath in a flowing sequence, one posture gracefully flowing into the other. Practiced mindfully and with attention to alignment, this practice calms the mind, increases flexibility, strength and balance.

SPRING RE-CHARGE Yin Yoga & Yoga Nidra

In this two-hour Yin Yoga workshop we'll focus on soothing and grounding postures that help turn off the overdrive switch and turn on the heal & re-charge response, aligning with the body's innate wisdom. The longer, supported holds in Yin Yoga help the body and mind to relax and release tension, mentally, emotionally and physically. Yin yoga targets the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, fascial tissue, joints) which are not usually stimulated in a more active “yang” yoga practice. 

Physically, yin yoga creates a gentle traction and compression that can help to flush out toxins and lubricate the joints while releasing forms of tension from the surrounding connective tissues. The mindful practice, with an emphasis on conscious breathing and awareness of sensation, further deepens our ability to let go & be present.

Class is concluded with a 20 minute Yoga Nidra ~ a guided meditation practiced while in “savasana” (laying down). This practice induces complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, allowing us to access parts of the mind to introduce our deepest intentions when the consciousness functions at a deeper level of awareness. Release tension and anxiety, decrease stress while increasing awareness and imagination. (blankets, eye pillows, and essential oils will be provided).

Zumba Gold and Yoga                                               

Always wanted to Zumba but thought it might be too much for you? This class combnes gentle Zumba Gold dance and fitness moves with yoga stretches, breathing exercises and deep relaxation. It is ideal for for beginners, active older adults and other participants who may need  program modifications.

Zumba Toning

Perfect for those who want to party, but put extra emphasis on toning and sculpting to define those muscles! The challenge of adding resistance by using Zumba® Toning Sticks (or light weights), helps you focus on specific muscle groups including arms, core and lower body. This class is open to everyone, no previous dance or Zumba class experience necessary.
