Spring Recreation programs at Burnside Gorge Community Centre

Spring is approaching, and there are plenty of new things to do at the Burnside Gorge Community Centre!

Recreation programs for preschoolers, kids, teens, adults and seniors begin March 22nd, 2010. Choose from programs for preschoolers, kids, teens, adults and seniors. Health & wellness, language, art and dance classes are all available. New programs include Power Yoga, BellyFit, and Crazy Cartooning for kids.

The Burnside Gorge Community Centre is a LEEDS gold facility, with a "living roof" and huge windows facing the Galloping Goose Trail. This is a great place to enjoy a workout, join a new program, or spend time with friends. The Centre is located at 471 Cecelia Rd, close to the Gorge Rd and Jutland Rd intersection.

Thinking of trying something new, getting in shape, or joining a club? The beautiful Burnside Gorge Community Centre offers a wide range of activities, all at affordable prices and convenient times. Our newly built facility is a comfortable place to be, with highly experienced instructors to assist you with the activity of your choice.

Family French Workshop
Families with children 2.5-7 yrs learn French together with songs, stories, creative play, games and crafts. View Poster

Yin Yoga Workshop
This unique style of yoga practice brings a focus to the connective tissues of the body. Yogic postures are held for longer periods of time, allowing the less elastic tissues of the body to become more supple. You will be introduced to Yin Yoga theory and practice, learn how to perform specific postures, study some basic anatomy and physiology, and learn terms such as 'tension', 'compression' and 'fuzz' to assist your practice. Chair Tai Chi
Chair Tai Chi is a gentle, low impact form of exercise. Each class includes a series of guided movements that will leave you feeling relaxed and limber. Click here for more details.

Mature Driver's Workshop
Join us for a practical workshop for Mature Drivers. Assess your driving skills and habits. Update your knowledge of vehicle safety features and road regulations. Click here for more details.

Increasing Energy through Chakra Balance
This workshop focuses on increasing energy flow through the seven major chakras - powerful energy vortexes set along the spinal column. Each chakra will be introduced, and a meditation session and exercise will follow. Participants will learn how chakra health can benefit the body and mind. Helpful tips on bringing chakra balance into daily life practice will be included.

Qi Gong Weekend Workshop
This ancient form of exercise aims to reduce illness and improve stamina through physical movements and breath work. Qi Gong movements open the joints and strengthen/re-align the skeletal system. Participants will be guided through a series of low impact, weight bearing exercises.

Jazzercise

Through dance-like movements to music, this program is a fun way to increase your fitness level.

Seniors Lunch n' Learn
Drop in once a week to enjoy a light, nutritious meal as well as a presentation or activity lead by a peer volunteer.

Join us on February 16th, 2010 for the play, "Age on Wheels" presented by the Target Theater. More details are available here.
