The Burnside Gorge Community Association (BGCA) will be hosting the 10th annual Gorge Waterway Cleanup on Saturday September 18th 9am-12pm, and is currently seeking volunteers.

Participating in The Gorge Waterway Cleanup is a great way to make a difference to our local environment. Each year, more than two tones of debris is retrieved from the Gorge shoreline and waters. The result is an improved habitat for local wildlife and a more beautiful area for people to enjoy.

Event headquarters will be set-up at two locations: Waterfront Crescent near the Galloping Goose Trail (follow the signs) & Gorge Park. Volunteers will clean sections of the Gorge Waterway from the Bay St. Bridge to the Tillicum St. Bridge.

Volunteers from schools, local businesses, and non-profit organizations will be involved in this year’s Gorge Waterway Cleanup, as well as residents from across Greater Victoria. Scuba divers and boaters will join land-based volunteers, so that debris can be retrieved along the shoreline and from within the ocean.

Are you interested in joining us? For more information or to register, please contact the Burnside Gorge Community Centre at 250-388-5251.

The Burnside Gorge Community Centre invites the Greater Victoria community to our Santa's Pancake Breakfast each year. We had a blast on December 12th 2009! Live entertainment, a craft station, family play area, balloon twisting station, breakfast and visits with Santa were all part of the event.

Kids and adults alike visited with Santa and had a free photo developed courtesy of Japan Camera Mayfair. Santa's elves made sure that each child went home with a small gift too! Daisy the Cow and Farmer Vicki entertained us, the Ocean Rain Chinese Dance Company performed, and the Kennedy Brothers sang fun seasonal music.

We hope you will join us for Santa's Pancake Breakfast 2010 (date to-be-announced soon)!

Halloween Howl 2009 at Mayfair Shopping Centre was a huge hit! The mall was taken over by ghouls, goblins and faeries for 2 hours during the afternoon of October 31st. The Burnside Gorge Community Association organized this event, aimed at providing a safe and fun way for celebrating Halloween.

Activity and entertainment booths were stationed throughout the venue, including two live entertainment stages, a bouncy castle, a face painting station, tattoo station, hoop dancing station, creepy creatures booth and creepy games. Stores through Mayfair Shopping Centre participated by giving out candy to trick-or-treaters.
